The Miss World beauty pageant, as we all are aware, is the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world.

It brings together women from different backgrounds to compete for the prestigious title. Miss World is not a cakewalk; it is a journey where the one with extraordinary potential, ready to put in her all is eventually declared the champion.

Miss World is not just about style and glamour; it is about true grit, valiance and resoluteness. The night is not far away, when Africa will send its finest girls to China on the 18th November to fight for the coveted crown of Miss World 2017!

Here are the African queens that will compete in the pageant this year.

1. Miss Nigeria- Ugochi Ihezue

Fierce model and Miss Nigeria winner, Ugochi enjoys travelling, reading, and playing Scrabble and Chess. Her Instagram is LIT and we love scrolling through her daily posts.

2. Miss Ghana- Afua Asieduwaa Akrofi

 

 

Ghana’s Afua is 24 and an Undergraduate at the University of Ghana studying Social Sciences and with dreams of becoming a diplomat and ultimately the first female United Nations General Secretary. Big dreams for a fierce girl. We don’t usually play favorites when it comes to this stuff, but Afua is our favorite! We’re rooting for you girl, make us proud!

Bessika is a Psychology student and yoga enthusiast with ambitions of becoming a Lecturer.

4. Miss Cote D’Ivoire-Gbane Mandjalia

Miss Mandjalia is 20 and is currently pursuing a degree in marketing and has set up an NGO that helps with the struggle against low level of education for children in Africa by helping and funding their school fees. Mandjalia enjoys blogging (ok, we love her too!) and IT Science and has an interest in fashion and cooking.

5. Ethiopia-Kisanet Molla Gbereslesia

Aged 22, Kisanet is currently working as a nurse. Since being crowned Miss Ethiopia, Kisanet has been involved in supporting women and children. Her hobbies include running, salsa and African dancing.
Guinea

6. Miss Guinea-Asmaou Diallo

 

Asmaou is 24 years old and is the epitomy of beauty with brains. Having earned her Masters in Economic Policy Analysis, Asmaou is currently working as a Trainee Accountant in an Audit firm. Hobbies include swimming, reading, and performing the Balafon, the Guinea Traditional dance.

7. Guinea Bissau-Laila Da Costa

Miss Guinea-Bisau

20 year-old Laila is currently working as a model and is preparing to start a Degree course in Languages and Business Relations. She has ambitions to set up an agency for people with disabilities.

8. Miss Kenya-Magline Jeruto

Serving us a lot of Lupita with her haircut, this one. Magline has a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Travel Management and is currently working as a Travel Consultant. The 24 year old stunner has dreams of being a Diplomat. Hobbies include travelling, hiking, crocheting, contemporary dance and pottery

9. Lesotho-Mpoi Mahao

24 year old Mpoi Mahao is a second year student of Humanities at the National University of Lesotho and winner of Miss Lesotho 2017.

23 year old Chiedza is an aspiring actress who has a passion for the arts and enjoys listening to jazz music. But she’s not just a pretty face, the queen is also the leader of the ‘Be in School’ campaign, a successful project promoting education in Zimbabwe.

11. Cameroon-Akomo Minkata

21 year old Akomo is in the final year of her studies for a Bachelor Degree and is aspiring to be an Ambassador for her International Co-operate. She loves singing, dancing, basketball and travelling. This queen also loves music and plays the piano. She is also a Goodwill Ambassador of the Association “La Colombe” which fights against sexual abuse against children.

12. Tanzania-Julitha Kabete

20-year-old Julitha is currently a student of Strategic Brand Communication but would like to create her own brand in Fashion and Beauty; she also aspires to become an established Environmental Activist.’

13. Egypt-Farah Shaaban Mostafa

 

Farah is only 19 and is currently studying Computer Science at the University and has dreams of becoming a computer programmer that develops fun and beneficial programs for children. Farah enjoys swimming, reading, acting and dancing..’

14. Rwanda-Elsa Iradukunda

19 year old Elsa is just a High School Graduate, currently working for a bank as a brand ambassador but her dream job would be to work in mining. She has always been passionate about swimming and was once part of the National Swimming team, which was her proudest day. Since being crowned Miss Rwanda, Elsa has taken part in organizing cataract surgery for 200 vulnerable adults, paid for 11 student’s University fees, helped families affected by genocide and provided Hepatitis vaccine to 1000 adults.

 

15. Tunisia-Emna Hedi

Emna is currently a first year student of Fine Arts at the University and has ambitions to be a Good Will Ambassador or an art teacher. Emma also enjoys listening to music, drawing, aerobics and traditional and Oriental dancing

Angola’s queen is only 22 and is the country’s official comeback queen as Angola is returning for Miss World 2017 after last competing in 2013. Can she bring home the crown? We’re excited to find out.

17. Seychelles-Hilary Coubert

Miss Seychelles

A Customer Service Representative, 23 year old Hilary has ambitions to continue with her education and become a Bank Branch Manager. She enjoys swimming, walking, and performing her traditional dance of Seychelles.’

19. South Africa -Adé van Heerden

26 year old Ade has a degree in Medicine and Surgery and is currently a Lieutenant and is working as a Medical Doctor in the South African National Defence Force. Ade enjoys boxing, self-defense and fitness.

20. South Sudan-Arual Longar

Arual is currently studying Human Resource Management and would like to become a Journalist. She enjoys playing volleyball and has a special talent for dance.

 

21. Senegal-Nar Codou Diouf

 

Miss Senegal

After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Private Law, Nar is currently studying a Master’s Degree in Business and Tax Law and would like to do her Bar training and become a Lawyer specializing in both business and the Rights of women and children.

 

We’ll be rooting for these ladies and we hope they bring the crown home to the continent.
